Wisboom Pumping Station or film and exhibition
At Wisboom Pumping Station, you can feel the power of this historic steam pump, which can pump away water seven times faster than the windmills. Here, you can learn how this ingenious system worked with the aid of scale models and interactive demonstrations.
If you choose to see the film and exhibition, you will go on a journey through time, featuring floods, windmills, and new inventions, and discover how people have been fighting water for hundreds of years.
Experience the windmills by boat
Come aboard our tour boat and admire Kinderdijk from a refreshing angle. The windmills seem even larger when seen from the water, creating a perfect backdrop for your photographs. Your boat trip will take you either up, or down, the canal, leaving room for a short walk.
Visit a museum mill
Step back in time in the Blokweer or Nederwaard Museum Mill. Inspect the huge gear wheels and feel how the water flows under the windmill. Learn all about the miller’s job and see how the windmills protect this area from the water.
