On the Hunt for the Mill Code

A visit to Kinderdijk becomes a real adventure for children with the Mill Code. Pick up your activity sheet at the Visitor Center and set off together through the mill area. Along the way, you’ll visit different locations, solve fun challenges and collect the secret code piece by piece. The Mill Code is included with your admission ticket, so you can start your adventure right away.

Follow the clues through the mill area

With the activity sheet in hand, you’ll walk past the Wisboom Pumping Station, the Bird Theatre, the tour boat and the museum mills. At every location, a new question is waiting for you. Look around carefully, read the clues and fill in another part of the code. Step by step, the challenges lead you through Kinderdijk until you’ve completed the entire Mill Code.

Enter the code and discover your surprise

Found all the answers and completed the Mill Code? Head back to the Gift Shop at the Visitor Center. A member of staff will check your code. If you’ve cracked it, you’ll receive a fun surprise. It’s the perfect way to finish your adventure, with a reward in your pocket and plenty of new discoveries about Kinderdijk.

A treasure hunt for the whole family

The Mill Code encourages children to explore while parents enjoy the route through Kinderdijk together with them. Along the way, you’ll discover famous landmarks, search for answers and learn more about this UNESCO World Heritage Site through play. Pick up your activity sheet at the Visitor Center and set off together in search of the millers’ secret code.

Tip for young detectives: Bring a pencil or pen with you before you leave for Kinderdijk so you can fill in the Mill Code as you go. Forgotten your writing gear? No problem! You can pick up a pencil at the Visitor Center.
