Birthday Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage

Since 6 December 1997, the Kinderdijk-Elshout windmill complex has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are pleased to celebrate this special milestone again this year and warmly invite you to join us at our World Heritage site

Celebration on Saturday 5 December

This year, 6 December falls on a Sunday. As we do not organise events on Sundays, we will celebrate our anniversary on Saturday 5 December.

What can I do?

Immerse yourself in a world of water, wind, and determination. For over 700 years, the dikes, mills, and pumping stations of Kinderdijk have kept the land dry. Step on board our tour boat and be guided through this historical landscape. Enter the museum mills and discover the personal stories of the millers who breathe life into this beautiful place.

You are welcome between 10.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Read here all the possibilities to travel to Kinderdijk in style.

Our doors are open free of charge between 10.30 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. No ticket is required.

Do you need a ticket?

No, you don’t! This is the only day of the year when all our visitor locations are freely accessible without a ticket. Of course, you are very welcome to make a donation on site or support our World Heritage site by taking home a souvenir or enjoying a cup of coffee at the Kinderdijk Café. In this way, you help contribute to the preservation of this unique part of the Netherlands. Thank you in advance!
