A private visit at leisure

Choose the Storage Basin package if you want to be sure of a leisurely, quiet time for your visit to Kinderdijk. We will reserve the boat and the visit to Overwaard Museum Mill exclusively for your group, so you can travel privately in a gently rocking boat and watch the nineteen windmills slip by. You will also have the chance to enjoy the windmill and the yard at your leisure. For sure, you’ll be feeling relaxed after this group outing.

Meet the miller

Once you are in the yard, you will meet our miller. The miller can tell you in colorful detail about the peculiar qualities of this windmill. For example, did you know that this is the only windmill that can pump two ways? The water could be pumped out to the right and to the left. The miller will explain the advantages to you in detail. You can also have a look round the shed, where you’ll see tools dating from as far back as 1740. They were used to build the windmill and have been preserved since then.

Boezem XL | Visit the Wisboom Pumping Station

Make your visit complete with a visit to Wisboom Pumping Station. Although the windmills were used to pump away the water, Wisboom Pumping Station was built in 1868 to help them. This steam-power pumping station can generate the same power as seven windmills. Come and see for yourself and stand eye to eye with the gigantic flywheels. Perhaps you will be lucky, and they will be turning. There is a scale model to demonstrate the workings of Wisboom Pumping Station and a windmill game, where you are encouraged to fight the force of the water yourself.
