Wisboom Pumping Station: technology in action

Wisboom Pumping Station, built in 1868, demonstrates how pumping stations helped to pump water away. You can learn how this huge machine operated and how it moved the water so quickly. There are demonstrations and scale models to explain how ingenious this system was.

Visit a museum mill

Step back in time in Blokweer Museum Mill or Nederwaard Musuem Mill. Appreciate the force of the water flowing under the mill and watch the gear wheels at work. Here, you will learn how the millers made sure the local inhabitants stayed dry.

Learn more with an audio tour

The audio tour (available on your own phone) that plays as you make your way to the windmill shares stories from the region’s past, the struggle against the water, and the role of the windmills in this history. Students can listen actively and deepen their knowledge while exploring the landscape.
