Your visit to Kinderdijk:

  • View the video and the exhibition or explore Wisboom Pumping Station
  • Step inside one of the museum mills
  • Listen to an audio tour with the amazing story of Kinderdijk
  • Optional: go exploring with an enthusiastic guide

Water Management Up Close

Find out how Kinderdijk has been regulating the water here for centuries. The video explains how this landscape was shaped and which innovations prevented the water from flooding in. In Wisboom Pumping Station, you can witness the power of the steam pumps interactively with scale models and models of the polders. The audio tour (available on your own phone) offers more depth: perfect for students who like to learn independently.

The name Korte Halve

‘Korte Halve’ is named for the smaller sail used by millers when there is plenty of wind: it’s compact, strong and effective, just like this educational package.

Come and admire a real windmill

Your visit is only truly complete once you have seen the inside of a windmill. Explore the various rooms, inspect the large gear wheels, and feel the dynamics of the water. Meet the miller and hear stories about life in the mill’s yard.
