Kinderdijk: how to get here
By WaterShuttle
Nothing beats making a trip to the windmills by water, and the best way to do that is by using the WaterShuttle, your fast connection to Kinderdijk. Bring your bike on board from Rotterdam to Kinderdijk: you’ll be here in just 30 minutes. Along the way, enjoy the best views of the rivers that shaped Holland into what it is today.
By Public transport
Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage is accessible all year round by public transport. The bus takes you over the road, the WaterShuttle over the river. From cities like Dordrecht and Rotterdam, you get off at the entrance to the World Heritage!
By car
High season (16 March to 1 November):
You can only park at the Transferium in Alblasserdam (Kabelbaan 1, Alblasserdam). Admission to the parking lot costs €9.75 per car and is only available in combination with an admission ticket to Kinderdijk. The price includes a shuttle bus that will run you to Kinderdijk in no time, free of charge. It is easy to order your ticket for the parking lot online when you order your admission tickets.
Low season (2 November through mid March):
The Transferium is closed during these months, but you can park your car for €9.75 at the entrance to the World Heritage Site (Nederwaard 1, Kinderdijk). Use of this parking lot is only permitted if you have an entrance ticket to the windmill area. Online parking reservations are not available during the low season.
By RV or caravan
Arriving by RV or caravan? You can park at our Bus & Camper Parking (Lekdijk 432A, Nieuw-Lekkerland), about 1.7 km from the entrance. A parking ticket costs €12.50 per day. Please note: overnight stays are strictly forbidden in this parking lot.
It’s easy to get to the windmill area by foot or by bike from there. The parking lot is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Tip! Take bus line 489 and you’ll be at the World Heritage Site in just two stops.
By coach
Coming with a group? Passengers can be dropped off and picked up close to Kinderdijk’s group entrance at the dedicated Stop & Go zone. Coaches can then park at Lekdijk 432 A, Nieuw-Lekkerland. Parking is €22.50.
Advance reservation via sales@kinderdijk.nl is mandatory.
By bike
Kinderdijk is right in the center of great biking country. Whether you want to follow the dikes, cut through the polders or disembark with your bike from the WaterShuttle: cycling is the best way to see this beautiful countryside.
There are good cycle paths leading to the entrance zone. You can park your bike safely while you visit the Visitor Center.
