Visit area the Alblasserwaard
During the Alblasserwaardse Molendag on Saturday, 21 March, several SIMAV windmills and pumping stations in the region will open their doors to the public. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., you are warmly invited to experience water management, the craft of the miller, and the unique landscape of the Alblasserwaard up close. All participating locations can be visited free of charge.
The museum mills at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kinderdijk can only be visited with an entry ticket. However, it is possible to take a look inside the pumping station J.U. Smitgemaal. A unique opportunity, as it is normally not open to the public!
Visit pumping station J.U. Smitgemaal in Kinderdijk
The pumping station from 1972 will be open to visitors between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. A guide will be present to explain how this pumping station works, why it has two electric motors and one diesel motor, and how much water can be moved per minute. An interesting tour through the pumping station awaits you! No registration is required.
